Research Engineer in Systems Engineering

Position Summary:

The UM6P Vanguard Center & The School of Applied Sciences & Engineering at UM6P are seeking a Research Engineer in Systems Engineering to support the development of the Wicked Problems (WiP) learning framework within our undergraduate program. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in systems thinking and engineering methodologies to help students model, analyze, and design solutions to complex, interdependent challenges in sustainability, technology, and society.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply systems engineering principles to guide students in decomposing and addressing interdisciplinary Wicked Problems.
  • Mentor project teams on system architecture, functional modeling, process flows, and requirements engineering.
  • Develop modeling tools and workflows that help students simulate and evaluate alternative system designs.
  • Collaborate with faculty across disciplines to embed systems-thinking into WiP pedagogy and exercises.
  • Support the integration of digital tools for systems analysis, such as SysML, Modelica, or system dynamics software.
  • Publish research and co-author student-led publications resulting from WiP investigations.
  • Contribute to applied research motivated by the WiP investigations.
